Sermon for January 15th 2017 (Audio coming soon)
First hand experience is always best. It’s harder to believe what someone tells us if we cannot experience it for ourselves.
The Gospel of John is all about first hand experience and knowing for yourself. Jesus is the Word made flesh. You know someone best by their word. John highlights this at the beginning of the book and then says at the end of the book, “Jesus did a lot of things that are not written in this book, but these are written so that you might believe…” He wants us to know Jesus as Savior and Lord.
John the baptist tells his disciples about Jesus and two go and check it out for themselves. Jesus’ invitation to them, and us, is, “Come and see for yourselves.”
Andrew goes home and tells his brother to come because they have found the messiah.
We have to be both Come and See people and then Go and Tell people.
