Sermon for January 14th, 2018
This week we see the Northern Kingdom (10 tribes) come to an end. The kings that were put in charge have turned away from God for the last time. Assyria is a powerhouse nation with a huge army. They intimidate smaller nations and they either pay tribute or are taken to live in exile. The Northern Kingdom looks for salvation from other nations, instead of God alone. They pay tribute to Assyria for a while and then look elsewhere. They go to Egypt and see what they can do about Assyria. Assyria finds out and it doesn’t end well.
Judah, the Southern Kingdom, has some decisions to make. Will they give in to Assyria or trust in God? They have a good king on the throne that has eliminated all the pagan gods. He wants to trust God but fear is also a big factor.
We can also have the same issues. Its easy to trust God when everything is going well. Its not so easy when things are uncertain or there is persecution.
We need to have the motto: “There is no king but King Jesus!”
Listen to the message today and be challenged by God’s Word.
