Redirecting a Rebel

Redirecting a Rebel

Sermon for June 16th, 2019

Beyond the Tomb

During this series we want to look at the appearances Jesus made to people after the resurrection. We will find that even today we experience some of the same emotions and feelings. Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 8- Redirecting A Rebel

Pentecost continues. The Church is on the move. God is working through His people but it’s not always safe. We see a guy named Saul who is trying his best to squash the early church. He wants to kill them all. Saul is instrumental in the murder of the first Christian martyr, Stephen. Jesus doesn’t leave this work for anyone else to do. He comes to Saul on the road to Damascus. Saul’s life is forever changed when Jesus redirects his path. God can take the worst of rebels to change the world for His glory. God can turn the rebel heart of stone into a heart of flesh to serve and love people.

Focusing On the Future

Sermon for July 9th, 2019

Beyond the Tomb

During this series we want to look at the appearances Jesus made to people after the resurrection. We will find that even today we experience some of the same emotions and feelings. Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 7- Focusing on the Future

Jesus ascends into heaven. Jesus said that it would be good for him to go away, for when he did, He would send the Holy Spirit to be with us forever. If the disciples wanted to see Jesus again, it was no use looking up. Better that they should look around instead, at each other, at the world, at the ordinary people in their ordinary lives. With nothing but a promise and a prayer, those 11 people became the church, and nothing was ever the same again. At Pentecost the Holy Spirit begins something in that little group as God added to their numbers people of all tribes and nations.

Sharing His Story

Sermon for June 2nd, 2019

Beyond the Tomb

During this series we want to look at the appearances Jesus made to people after the resurrection. We will find that even today we experience some of the same emotions and feelings. Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 6- Sharing His Story

Today Jesus shares His mission of the Church. Jesus knows that shortly He will ascend to the Father. He must choose His words carefully and give them great weight. Jesus says, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” The words that follow are a part of what is known as The Great Commission. This mission is certainly a Co-mission, meaning there is a partnership. God sends his Church with the promise that no matter where they go, God goes with them. The Church has been given a task and a promise, what is holding us back from taking it on?

Forgiving the Fallen

Sermon for May 26th, 2019

Beyond the Tomb

During this series we want to look at the appearances Jesus made to people after the resurrection. We will find that even today we experience some of the same emotions and feelings. Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 5- Forgiving the Fallen

Today we continue the story from last week. As Jesus and his disciples sit around the fire and eat breakfast together, Jesus has a conversation with Peter. Peter and Jesus haven’t talked about the betrayal. I believe that this has weighed heavy on Peter especially after he told Jesus that he would rather die than turn away from him. But we all know the rest of the story…Peter drops Jesus like a hot potato. Jesus brings forgiveness and a charge for Peter and ultimately for all his disciples today. Maybe you need to hear about forgiveness today. Jesus says come to me all who are weary and burdened and you will find rest.

Dealing With Disappointment

Sermon for May 19th, 2019

Beyond the Tomb

During this series we want to look at the appearances Jesus made to people after the resurrection. We will find that even today we experience some of the same emotions and feelings. Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 4- Dealing With Disappointment

Today we see the disciples out doing their day job, fishing. Jesus shows up again after a long night of catching no fish. Jesus tells the disciples to throw the net to the other side of the boat. We can almost hear what the disciples are thinking…we are professional fisherman, and nothing is biting today but sure we’ll show you. But when they actually obey, they receive a haul so big their nets almost break. Jesus invites them to sit down and eat breakfast together. Jesus deals with their disappointment and wants to deal with yours as well.

Dismantling Our Doubt

Sermon for May 12th, 2019

Beyond the Tomb

During this series we want to look at the appearances Jesus made to people after the resurrection. We will find that even today we experience some of the same emotions and feelings. Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 3- Dismantling Our Doubt

Today we see the disciple who gets the wonderful nickname that has unfortunately stuck to him; Doubting Thomas. Doubt is normal. But every doubt is based on a leap of faith. Thomas believed that no one could come back from the dead because he has never seen it. The reason he couldn’t believe it was because he was holding on to another opposing belief. A person’s faith can collapse almost overnight if they have failed over the years to listen patiently to their own doubts, which should only be discarded after long reflection. We should look at our doubts, face them, and allow God to speak into them.

Forsaking Our Fears

Sermon for May 5th, 2019

Because Jesus rose from the dead our eternity has been changed. Every day we can be reminded that the story is never over, and Jesus has something to say about our lives.

Week 2- Forsaking Our Fears

The disciples are hiding behind a locked door in fear for their lives. If they crucified Jesus, what will they do to his followers? Fear keeps us hiding behind doors, isolated from God and others. Jesus appears before them and speaks a word of peace. He then gives his disciples a charge…fear can’t hold them back anymore.

Week 1- Seeking the Savior
