Can I Know God Personally?

Can I Know God Personally?

Sermon for February, 24th, 2019

Today we conclude our sermon series of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 7: Can I Know God Personally? Have you ever felt like God was distant from you, distant from your pain and problems? What does it take to begin to know God? Devote yourself to unselfish religious deeds? Become a better person so that God will accept you? You may be surprised that none of those things will work. But God has made it very clear in the Bible how we can know Him.

Continue to ask questions and explore God.

Is the Bible Reliable?

Sermon for February 17th, 2019

We have begun a journey of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 6: Is the Bible Reliable? “I’m glad your faith works for you, but can you really know whether or not the Bible is reliable? Wasn’t it written thousands of years ago? How do you know it hasn’t been translated and re-translated so much that it no longer says what it used to say?” These questions or variations of them are often asked about the Bible. It is important that we take questions about the reliability of the Bible seriously rather than responding with “just believe.”

Is Jesus really God?

Sermon for February 10th, 2019

We have begun a journey of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 5: Is Jesus really God? Christians cannot possibly believe that the God who created this vast universe actually entered into His own creation as a carpenter’s son in an unremarkable corner of the Roman Empire nearly two thousand years ago, can they? Surely, Christians are only making a theological statement when they speak of the deity of Christ, right? They can’t possibly believe Jesus is actually the God-man, the Creator amid His own creation, right? As amazing as it sounds, that is exactly what believing Christians claim.

Is Christianity too narrow?

Sermon for February 3rd, 2018

We have begun a journey of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 4: Is Christianity too narrow? Christianity names some beliefs heresy and some practices immoral. It bars from its community those who transgress its doctrinal and moral boundaries. This seems to contemporary observers to endanger civic freedom, because it divides rather than unites our population. It appears to enslave its members, determining what they must believe and practice in everything. Is Christianity too narrow?

Why does God allow pain and suffering?

Sermon for January 27th, 2019

We have begun a journey of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 3: Why does God allow pain and suffering? This is probably the biggest question that people ask. I believe this is a question that every living person needs to wrestle with. Pain and suffering is an inevitable part of life. If we don’t have an answer to this question our lives can be filled with meaningless wandering and depression. I have talked with a lot of people that were once Christian that ended up leaving the faith because they couldn’t come to a conclusion on this subject. We are going to start the conversation and continue with the discussion.

This week we have a guest preacher. Pastor Keith Haney is a mission executive for the Northern Illinois District of the LCMS. Keith is helping our churches with a new Vision.

Is There a God?

Sermon for January 20, 2019

We have begun a journey of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 2: Is There a God? If you were to ask the question on Google you will get a mix of pages that have definitive proof that God both exists and doesn’t exist. Everyone believes that they have the proof. Who and what are we to believe? Have you ever had doubts that God exists? These are the questions every person will eventually ask and need to answer. And how they answer it will affect how they live and how they see the world around them.

Does Life Have a Purpose?

Sermon for January 13th, 2019

This week we begin a journey of exploration. We are going to ask big questions of the Christian faith. We all have questions and we all have doubts. This is the perfect time to be a part of the discussion; asking questions and seeking answers. Let’s Explore God together.

Week 1: Does Life Have a Purpose? Have you ever wondered if there was really any point to this whole thing called life? If you have, you wouldn’t be the first to do so. King Solomon wondered about that question almost 3,000 years ago when he said, “Everything is meaningless, completely meaningless!” Imagine if nothing we did ever mattered. Would that change the way you live? Today we want to discover what Christianity has to say about the question.
